Whose Grip Are You In?

John 10:22-30 is sometimes one of the most contested verses in the Bible, mainly because of the eternal security debate that often arises among some Christians. What is one of the most powerful passages in the Bible about who Jesus is can get needlessly bogged down in the debate.

I’m on the Arminian side of the debate myself, based on my understanding of Scripture as a whole. However, I’ve become leery of using terminology that speaks of salvation being “lost”, as though it were something like a wallet or coin. Maybe renounce or reject would be more appropriate.

We do have free will, and I believe it is possible to deliberately, consciously choose to reject God. However, I don’t think this is something that you can do purely by accident. God’s mercy and forgiveness are much bigger than our mistakes. While some religious leaders try to claim authority over people’s souls, only the Good Shepherd legitimately has this claim.
