The Lord Would Like a Word with You

1 Samuel 3:1-10(11-20)

This is one of my favorite selections from Scripture about how God speaks to us and our need to listen. Even though this happened a long time ago, I see a lot of parallels between this ancient Hebrew society and our own society.

In this time, the word of the Lord and visions were both considered rare. This was during the time after the Israelites had conquered Canaan but before the time of the kings. Idol worship mixed in with Judaism was unfortunately fairly common.

Today, we often live lives that are so filled with constant busyness that it seems like God can no longer speak to us. However, it’s not that God can’t speak to us. It’s just that many of us forgotten how to listen. Maybe we all need to be a little more like Samuel as a kid.

Speak Lord, and let us Your servants be listening.
